The Putney Clinic of Physical Therapy supporter of the Dallaglio Foundation

THE DALLAGLIO FOUNDATION

The Putney Clinic of Physical Therapy is proud to support the Dallaglio Foundation and its biennial Dallaglio Cycle Slam challenge. The foundation was formed by retired England and British Lions rugby player Lawrence Dallaglio OBE, MBE, who has been a client at the Clinic for many years. The foundation exists to nurture and develop the essential skills of disadvantaged young people. By increasing their sense of worth, self-confidence and self-esteem, the foundation works to empower them to make better life choices, both now and in the future.

MORE ABOUT RUGBYWORKS

The Dallaglio Cycle Slam raises money for a project that Lawrence Dallaglio set up through the Dallaglio Foundation called RugbyWorks. The project uses rugby to transform the aspirations of disengaged young people: 14 to 16 year old’s at increased risk of long-term unemployment, criminality and imprisonment. They aim to make a profound impact on the marginalised lives of those excluded from mainstream education; increasing self-worth, improving life skills and boosting employability.

DALLAGLIO CYCLE SLAM

The Dallaglio Cycle Slam was launched in 2010 and has since become one of the focal events in the charity’s calendar. The first event saw Lawrence flanked by 200 riders taking on a spectacular route between all of the Six Nations stadiums raising over £1million for the charity. The Dallaglio Cycle Slam takes place every two years; in 2012 it had an Olympic-themed route from Athens to London and raised an incredible £2,000,000.

Clive Lathey, founder of The Putney Clinic of Physical Therapy, joined the team and in 2014 and 2016. In 2014, he cycled from across the  Alps from St Moritz to Chamonix. The most recent edition, in 2016, saw him take on the Pyrenees. Along with the team, he cycled from Andorra to Barcelona, passing through the south of France. At the end, there was also a final lap of Ibiza. Clive’s cycle slam challenge led him to ride an amazing 530km, with over 7,800 metres of climbing. A fantastic achievement for our very own MAMIL (middle-aged man in lycra). So far, in his two participations on the Dallaglio Cycle Slam, Clive has raised in excess of £20,000 for the RugbyWorks charity.

DALLAGLIO CYCLE SLAM 2018

The Dallaglio Cycle Slam returns in 2018. The event starts in Evian (France) and ends in Split (Croatia), covering a distance of 1,780km. Cyclists will take on some of the most beautiful and challenging rides in the French and Swiss Alps, before taking on the Italian Lakes. After this, they will pass through Slovenia, before finally heading down into Croatia. They will follow the stunning Adriatic coastline as they make their way to Split.

Clive will be cycling in stage 2 (Como to Udine) and stage 3 (Udine to Split). This will mean a staggering 1,258km of cycling. Travel and accommodation costs are paid for by cyclists and all sponsorship funds raised are ring fenced for the charity. Clive and his team mates have an initial donations target of £50,000. Money raised will go to RugbyWorks, the charity set upt the Dallaglio Foundation. If you would like to sponsor them, please visit their Virgin Money Giving page. All donations are hugely appreciated.
