  • Assessment through current food intake, lifestyle, symptoms. Determine starting point, goals and priorities.
  • Personalised nutrition recommendations to focus on cleaning up the diet, what to eat on rest, training and event days in order to support:
    • Energy
    • Performance
    • Recovery
    • Illness prevention (to ensure max training)
    • Inflammation
    • Oxidative stress
    • Digestion (e.g. runners trots)
    • Hydration
  • Possible supplementation plan if necessary

Osteopathy

Our osteopathy team offers a full biomechanical assessment of all joints – from head to toe – to optimise running mechanics and performance, and help reduce injury.

Massage

Deep tissue massage can be very helpful when training for a marathon. Firstly, it helps to release the build up of biomechanics waste in fatigued muscles after longer runs. Secondly, it can also help contracted muscles to regain their optimum working length.

As you build up to the big day and you have completed long runs, you are in the tapering period. This period is the optimal time to work on any areas that may be causing you problems, aches and pains, etc… The main objective is that you achieve your goal of completing your marathon without injury and within your target time.

During your preparation for the Marathon, our team of sports massage therapists can help you with a package of 5 massages spread over the pre and immediate post-race period.

We recommend the following outline:

  • 12 miles – Maintenance / Check up – 1 massage
  • 22 miles – Running problem solving / Maintenance – 1-2 massages
  • Pre-event – Tapering (resolving muscular and performance issues) – 1 massage
  • Post-event – Flushing day – 1 massage

Sports and Exercise Medicine

Our Sports and Exercise Medicine team is headed up by Dr Courtney Kipps the lead on-site Sports Injury Physician at The Putney Clinic of Physical Therapy. In addition to this, he is an Honorary Consultant in Sports and Exercise Medicine to University College London Hospitals. As well as this, he is a Principal Clinical Teaching Fellow at University College London.
