BIOMECHANICS AND PODIATRY

Biomechanical Analysis, Podiatry & Chiropody

In conjunction with Active Life Podiatry, The Putney Clinic of Physical Therapy offers a complete Biomechanics and Podiatry service, as well as Chiropody. These services are tailored to individual needs and requirements.

What is Biomechanical Analysis?

Biomechanics is the science concerned with the internal and external forces acting on the human body and the effects produced by these forces. Biomechanical Analysis is a scientific study of the mechanics of your body. In particular, it looks at the forces exerted by muscles and gravity on your skeletal structure.

Using a series of tests, we assess your technique and posture during rest and movement. By doing so, we build a profile of muscular tightness and weakness in your body. This allows us to develop a treatment and training regime completely tailored to your needs.

Conditions treated using Biomechanical Analysis

Biomechanical Analysis can be used in the treatment of a number of conditions including:

  • Using gait analysis and lower limb biomechanical evaluations we can diagnose and treat many musculoskeletal problems of the lower limb.
  • We can also treat and manage injuries such as calf strain, Achilles tendinitis, shin splints and plantar fasciitis.

What are Podiatry and Chiropody?

Podiatry and Chiropody are closely related services. Podiatry is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower leg. Chiropody is very similar to Podiatry. Indeed, in the UK it is considered as the traditional name for all services provided by a qualified podiatrist in many instances.

Conditions treated using Podiatry and Chiropody

Podiatry and Chiropody can be used in the treatment of a number of conditions including:

  • Routine care of skin and toenail conditions
  • Nail cutting
  • Removal of thick skin under the feet and around the heel
  • Minor surgical treatments for in-growing and infected toe nails, nail thickening, corns and verrucas

Our treatments

The methods of podiatry and chiropody treatment that we use are varied. They can involve a combination of insoles and orthoses, dry needling, foot/ankle mobilisations, injection therapy and re-evaluation of gait or running style.
