TAI CHI
with Graham Hadley
According to medical authorities, people with arthritis should incorporate muscle strength, flexibility and fitness exercises into their routine. This increase in muscle strength supports and protects the joints. This, in turn, can help to reduce pain.Flexibility exercises also help to reduce stiffness and pain, which can improve mobility. Stamina or fitness exercises are important not only for overall health, but also for proper function of your heart, lungs and muscles. One of the most popular ways of achieving this is through practising Tai Chi.
The benefits of practising Tai Chi
Tai Chi can help people to improve these areas and much more. One of the main benefits is improved physical and mental balance. In fact, there is a marked reduction in the fall rate among older adults who practise the discipline. Other benefits of practising it include improved relaxation, vitality, posture, and immune system.
Our Tai Chi classes
We run Tai Chi classes in conjunction with our colleagues at Yoga Mama. Classes are led by experienced teacher Graham Hadley , who is also a physiotherapist here at The Putney Clinic. His classes follow the principles of the Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention programme devised by Dr Paul Lam. We run our classes as 6-week courses. Each class, students learn a new move, while reviewing moves from previous weeks.
TCA levels
Our courses are split into the following levels:
- TCA1 (Beginners)
- TCA2 (Lower Intermediate)
- TCA3 (Intermediate)
These levels build on from each other. As a result, students must complete each level before being able to progress to the next one.

About our courses
Once an advertised course starts, online booking closes, which means students will not be able to join. However, if there are any places available, we may open these up as drop-in spaces. Courses are valid for the duration of the advertised date. This means that any missed classes cannot be carried forward to future courses.
Booking classes
Places on our in-studio group classes are limited and are on a first-come first-serve basis. At present we are unable to take class bookings or accept cash payments at our reception. Therefore, students must make all bookings and payments via our online booking system. Enrolment closes 60 minutes before classes are due to commence, so we urge you to book early to avoid disappointment. Should you require any further information, please send an email to info@yogamama.co.uk or call 07939 589 083.
